Hawkins Solicitors are one of the largest and well established
Solicitors in Norfolk. They provide many legal services to both
businesses and private individuals alike.
Hawkins approached Uptech with a major problem regarding one of
their PC’s, which was affecting business continuity. After
a quick and efficient repair, Uptech was asked to conduct an audit
of the existing system due to an imminent software upgrade that
was about to be agreed on the existing hardware and software platform.
The audit was essential as it provided key IT asset information
and uncovered some potential pitfalls upon which the imminent upgrade
could have come unstuck. This proves the value of Uptech’s
ability deliver a proven method to applying structure to the already
unstructured approach to IT.
Uptech were asked to tender for the solution and were successful.
This success was derived, in part, from using the unique Business
Efficiency Roadmap approach, settings goals and deliverables within
the financial and time related parameters governing all businesses.
Uptech Solution: Outsourced IT department for
less than hiring one IT person
Uptech deployed a Business Server solution providing a file storage
and e-mail facility at the head office. It provided central storage
for all company data making it auditable and manageable.
Users at the site noticed increased efficiency and were amazed
at how much time they were saving just by having a computer network.
Network faxing and desktop e-mail speeded up communication and allowed
people to respond when they were able to. The online calendar resolved
the diary sharing issue and the Financial Director had a control
on IT spend across the organisation.
Within weeks remote access was available at all sites allowing
the whole process of communication to be revolutionised between
branches with the additional benefit of management to work remotely.
All software licensing concerns had been resolved, a tape backup
solution was deployed and Uptech support the whole company’s
computer requirements.
Hawkins committed to a new software and hardware investment that
paid for itself within the first year.
Additional resulting benefit: Hawkins were then
able to open another branch where all users are able to connect
to the head office using Terminal Services Technology, enjoying
all of the benefits of the system and using it as if they were physically
located at the main site without having to incur further major investment.
