As a rapidly growing distributor of teaching classroom materials and toys, Learning Resources were quickly outgrowing their internal IT system. As the business grew at a phenomenal rate it was imperative that the IT system was robust, efficient and allowed for expansion.

Uptech proposed a Microsoft Business Server solution providing a common platform for e-mail, office applications and access to their tailor-made software providing the core of the distribution function

Uptech deployed a Business Server solution providing a file storage and e-mail facility at the European Head Office. It provided central storage for all company data making it auditable and manageable. Users at the site noticed increased efficiency and were amazed at how much time they were saving just by having a modern computer network. Network faxing and desktop e-mail speeded up communication and allowed people to respond when they were able to. The calendar resolved the diary sharing issue and the Financial Director had a control on IT spend across the organisation.

Communication was improved with the US side of the operation allowing business functionality to roll 24/7.

Within weeks remote access was available at all sites allowing the whole process of communication to be revolutionised between branches with the additional benefit of enabling management to work remotely.

All software licensing concerns had been resolved, a tape backup solution was deployed and Uptech support the whole company’s computer requirements.

Resulting Benefit: Communication with the US was vastly improved and the benefits of VPN technology allowed for remote control of systems either side of the Atlantic. This greatly increased fault fixing or system patches upgrades.

The remote support centre facility offered by Uptech has reduced on-site visits by 70%.
