CJC Transport Consultants – Case Study

Carl Crysell is the Managing Director of an exciting business called CJC Transport Consultants. Having spent many years working as a driver and Transport Manager, Carl set up CJC just over 12 months ago. CJC offers Bespoke services to small and medium businesses that run a Transport Department, but for those who Transport is not their main business. Working within Haulage, Utilities, and the Farming Industry, CJC helps these businesses become compliant with the legal side of running transport.

Carl makes sure he gets to know a business and how it works, as well as running a personal service. The services cover training and support for both freight and Passenger industries. CJC works with smaller businesses, who have a lack of knowledge around the requirements and the need for being compliant.

Carl and James met through the power of LinkedIn and had a number of meetings around what they both do, and their pasts. Whilst having these discussions, Carl had the dreaded blue screen of death on his laptop. He reached out to James, who organised for one of the Technicians to have a look at what might be needed. The SSD was unfortunately no longer functioning, but the Technician was able to see that it should still be under warranty with an Electronic Retailer. Carl spoke to them, who organised for them to collect it from Uptech, replace the parts, and return it to Uptech.

When this happened, Carl was not able to access any data, and it showed the need for a more resilient system, to get the security and data protection set up. Previous to this, Carl was either googling it or doing his best to get by.

In working with Uptech, CJC has got their email and domain switched to Microsoft 365, a backup solution in place, Advanced Antispam, and Business Office. Also, Carl opted for a fully managed service, as this gives Carl the chance to use Uptech as his very own IT department, for one fixed monthly fee and making sure his data is secure, with all of the Security tools from Uptech.

By working with Uptech, The process that has been put in place has gone hand in hand with CJC achieving ISO 9001. It has made them much easier. It has also made life easier by meaning all the files are accessible from Carls Tablet when on-site, as well as on his phone and Laptop.

Carl believes he is much calmer about IT now, as he has someone at the end of the phone he can trust to work with, and he knows that there is a plan in place should the worst happen, and his laptop blue screens again.

In Carls words ‘I have been really impressed, from talking with James to working with Dylan who has the patience of a saint, as when dealing with a worldwide name to get access to my domain, Dylan dealt with all of that without issue, no matter how hard they made it.

The team has been superb, helping me with folder structures and getting the most from my IT. I was concerned about moving to a Managed service, and the costs, but you get what you pay for. I am getting top service and support, and the price is right. Everything is covered, instead of paying £000’s when things go wrong.’

This is only the start, as Uptech and CJC look to work together for a long period of time, support each other as they grow.

Huggg Ltd – Case Study

Paul Wickers is the CEO of Huggg Ltd a company who have set out to make corporate gifting really simple – and thoughtful. Huggg has become a Multi-million-pound business and incredibly successful.

They provide services to businesses of all shapes and sizes, meaning that for their industry GDPR, Data security, and logistics are some of the unique issues they face. This meant that as well as achieving ISO: 27001, Paul wanted to achieve Cyber Essentials Plus, exhibiting the highest standards of information security, to show they are doing all they can to protect their data, client data and to also give them the required certification for selling into the Public Sector.

Initially, Huggg had started the process of looking at ISO:270001, however wanted to do more. Paul understood the importance of increasing their security and making sure they had solutions in place.

Working with Intu Veritas on the ISO accreditation, Paul mentioned Cyber Essentials Plus. Ellen and Steve were more than happy to recommend James Fowler and the team at Uptech.

After working with Uptech to get the Cyber Smart app installed on all the machines, to get them updated and patched, and working through the Questionnaire, Huggg passed stage one ‘Cyber Essentials’. The second stage was an Audit, prior to the audit taking place, Rachel and the team made sure everything was ok, by simulating a Vulnerability Assessment on several devices. This meant that when the Audit took place, any possible issues were removed. Huggg passed with flying colours.

The result has been that Huggg has secured a large government contract. This will help the business grow over the coming years.

The process has highlighted a need for Paul and Huggg to have a go-to solution for having devices shipped ready to go. A device direct out of the box is not secure and installing an anti-virus is not enough to achieve Cyber Essentials or Cyber Essentials Plus. Huggg and Uptech are now working on this solution, as well as a solution for holding equipment when refurbished, to be sent back to Huggg

Huggg CEO, Paul Wickers says:

‘When looking for IT Support, make sure you are a good personality match. You will be working together on issues and you need to get on with those solving those issues.

Paul also added ‘Appreciating a good waistcoat will go a long way as well.
